The 7 Cs of Communication

Measures to Overcome Barriers

Eliminate Perception Gaps

Understand your receiver's viewpoint before communicating to address preconceived notions.

Use Simple Language

Avoid ambiguous words and technical jargon to ensure your message is clear to everyone.

Reduce Noise

Identify and remove environmental or psychological distractions that can distort the message.

Practice Active Listening

Grammar Essentials

Clear and correct grammar is the foundation of effective written and verbal communication. This section provides a refresher on the fundamental components of language. Expand each topic to explore.

A sentence expresses a complete thought and must contain a subject and a verb. It may also have an object.

  • Subject [S]: The person, place, thing, or idea that the sentence is about. Ex: The dog barked.
  • Verb [V]: The action or state of being in the sentence. Ex: The dog barked.
  • Object [O]: The person or thing that receives the action of the verb. Ex: Jyoti eats cake.
  • Declarative: States a fact. Ends with a full stop. Ex: My car is black.
  • Imperative: Gives a command or request. Ends with a full stop or exclamation mark. Ex: Bring me a glass of water.
  • Interrogative: Asks a question. Ends with a question mark. Ex: Are you ready to go?
  • Exclamatory: Expresses strong emotion. Ends with an exclamation mark. Ex: What a brilliant idea!

A phrase is a group of words that stands together as a single grammatical unit, but does not contain both a subject and a verb to form a complete thought.

  • Noun Phrase: Functions as a noun. Ex: Did you enjoy reading this book?
  • Verb Phrase: Contains the main verb and helping verbs. Ex: The author is writing a new book.
  • Adjective Phrase: Functions as an adjective. Ex: The car was bright red and shiny.
  • Adverb Phrase: Functions as an adverb. Ex: He spoke with great enthusiasm.
  • Prepositional Phrase: Begins with a preposition. Ex: The cat slept under the blanket.
